ECL Colchester Crafty Drama

ECL Crafty Drama performing arts group love all things singing, dancing, and acting! We are an entirely inclusive drama group that gives adults with learning disabilities the chance to learn social, communication, motor, and life skills through the use of sign language, music, dance, and drama. Our workshops aim to boost confidence whilst making lifelong friends. Performing arts doesn't mean that everyone has to be on stage, for individuals who prefer to be creative behind the scenes there are plenty of opportunities to make costumes, build sets, and create props.

Further info

We aim to do one big production and several smaller public performances in a year. Our performances are a regular feature at Colchester's Culver Square, we volunteer our help with the drama workshops at the Mersea Island Festival, and have performed at the Picnic In The Priory in front of the Mayor and Mayoress of Colchester.

When we are not performing you can find us at St Botolph's church in Colchester from Monday to Thursday. During this time we are reading scripts, rehearsing our lines and dance routines, brushing up our Makaton sign language, and making costumes and props. We also offer opportunities to work towards gaining an ASDAN qualification to recognise achievements in Performing Arts. On a Friday you can find us at the day centre at ECL Colchester (Woodlands) where we engage in choice of activities to build independence skills, gain confidence and extend friendships.

We can support customers with a diverse range of support needs and can provide 1:1 care in line with a person's needs and care plan. St Botolph's church has wheelchair access and a disabled bathroom, but unfortunately does not have hoists, transferring equipment, or changing facilities so we are unable to provide personal care to those needing hoisting or transferring with equipment. We can offer expert care for people on modified diets or need enteral feeding.

Our dedicated staff team are passionate about drama and have a wealth of knowledge, skills and experience to help every individual reach their goals and aspirations.
