Life after military service can be tough, both for veterans and the people who support them. Mid and North East Essex Mind are offering free counselling support for anyone supporting a veteran in the districts of Colchester, Tendring, Braintree, Maldon and Chelmsford. This free service aims to provide emotional support, guidance, and a safe space for those who may benefit from talking to a qualified professional including partners, spouses, parents, family members, carers and young people aged 11 years+

Supporting a veteran can be rewarding, but it can also place significant pressure on your own mental and emotional wellbeing. Challenges such as emotional strain, relationship difficulties, social isolation, financial pressures and the responsibilities that can impact the wellbeing of supporters, especially when the veteran is also living with a physical injury or a mental health condition such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).

Thanks to funding from the Veterans’ Foundation, we are offering free counselling sessions to people supporting veterans to provide a confidential space that is focused entirely on you. You can talk to us about: anxiety or low mood; relationship difficulties; work-related stress or everyday pressures; confidence, self-esteem or identity; social isolation or loneliness; caring responsibilities or personal challenges or significant life changes.

Who can use this service?

This free counselling service is available to anyone supporting a veteran, including partners, spouses, parents, family members, carers and young people aged 11 years+.

You must live in Colchester, Tendring, Braintree, Maldon or Chelmsford.

You can refer yourself directly, or another organisation or professional can signpost you to the service.

How are services delivered?

Sessions can take place virtually, by phone or face-to-face. Our counselling room for face-to-face sessions is in Colchester.
